Scaffolds are gone

Although it is summer vacation, a few guys are still doing some minor work. They have now removed the scaffolds and now we have a better view of the house.
Later after summer vacation is over, the carport and attached outer storage space will arrive.

Quick peek inside

Carport and storage space will be on this side of the house

Recently there has been a lot of talk about he "Pokémon Go" game. And since it has been launched in Sweden, me and kids have joined the craze and keep hunting the Pokémon creatures all the time. It is a good way to make the kids do some walking exercise. They are very excited about this game.

Summer break!

11:15 Pi is the new bitcoin 0 Comments

It's summer time. The month of July is the time for some vacation. And everyone deserves a vacation. In Sweden it is a common thing to take 4 weeks of vacation to relax and have some fun in the sun.
So after a great start with building the house, the team building the house will now go for vacation.

That means no activity on the house for the next four weeks. But the good thing is the guys have made the house air and water tight and there won't be any problems during the vacation period.

The work is scheduled to start again in second week of August. So until then, have a great summer!!

Ceramics Round 2 - Final round.

22:55 Pi is the new bitcoin 0 Comments

After the first round of selecting the ceramics, we still kept thinking on whether we would like to change anything. It is not easy to visualize how the final finished bathroom or kitchen would look like. Just looking at one ceramic tile and liking it does not mean that one would like the final product as well.

We have been doing a lot of thinking around this. After all, once we finalize these things and they put the tiles in the bathroom and kitchen there is no going back. So every detail was important.

So we decided to take a trip again to the ceramics store. And we are glad we did the round 2. Many small details which we had not thought of before were given more attention. And we finally selected the ceramics and finalized the selection of ceramics.

Starting with the entry hall:
Entrance hall floor tiles: Loft Antracite 30x60

Bathroom on lower level:

Lower level bathroom wall: LB Vit matt 20x40

Lower level bathroom floor: Fusion grÃ¥ 33x33

Lower level bathroom shower floor & wall stroke: Fusion grÃ¥ 10x10

Bathroom on upper level:

Upper level bathroom wall: Caiman White 25x45
Upper level bathroom floor: Fusion Grå 33x33

Upper level bathroom shower floor, wall stroke & wash basin wall: Fusion grÃ¥ 10x10
Kitchen & Laundry wall:

Kitchen & Laundry wall: EG Ice vit matt 10x30
Laundry floor:

Laundry floor: Fusion Grå 33x33
In addition to the above ceramics selection, we also had to select the "Fogfärg". I don't know the English word for it (neither does Google, it fails to translate this one), but it is the color of the material that goes in between the tiles.

We opted for the colors between different types of ceramic tiles to be as close to the color of the tile itself. I think using a different color than that of the tile would give an un-necessary contrast.

Then we were told about something called as "Kakellister". Again, I am not sure of the English word for this one, but Google says it is "Tile Mouldings". Well, this is something that makes a big difference in the appearance and finishing of the ceramics work. It is a little piece of metal that goes around the edge near the windows, but see the difference.

So, of course we decided to have this little piece of metal on the edges to make it look nice.

And that was the round 2 of the ceramics selection. But we managed to finalize the details and we think that we made good choices. But as I said, the final result will only be known when the tiles are put in place. Lets hope for the best.

Roof tiles, fence wall & mail box

22:32 Pi is the new bitcoin 0 Comments

The roof tiles are up and now the house looks better than before.

Soon the work on the outer fence wall will also start. The neighbor's fence wall is currently being mounted and it looks nice.

One more thing we had almost forgotten was to buy the mail box. And it has to be mounted together with the fence wall. Leaving it for last minute would mean double work. So we have decided to buy the mailbox shown below and get it installed together with the fence wall.

But soon vacations will start. And as per the tradition almost the whole of Sweden will be on vacation for 4 weeks during July and August. That means another month of waiting as no one will work during these 4 weeks. It is going to be another boring wait.

But looking at the bright side, the house is already standing. So we have something to look forward to.

Peeking phase started

23:14 Pi is the new bitcoin 0 Comments

Now the long awaited part is complete. The house is now standing on the plot. But still there are a lot of things to be completed. And until the final inspection is done, we will not have the keys to the house. So till that time we will have to just keep peeking from the outside through the windows and glass doors.

Today they put on the side panels of the roof and started working on the inside. Next week they will put the roof tiles in place.

This week has been special with a lot of things happening. Now its time for a weekend and some well deserved relaxing time. Have a great weekend!!
